The NACO louvre was invented in Australia in the 1930's by Norman Appleton, who later formed N.V. Appleton & Co., to market the product. The Australian conglomerate RTZ Pillar bought the company and renamed it Pillar Naco, using the initials NACO from the original company as the brand name.
In 1972, Pillar Naco (Caribbean) Ltd. was established in Jamaica as a joint venture between Pillar Naco (Australia) and L.J. Williams Ltd., a Trinidadian owned company. In 1974, L.J. Williams Ltd. bought the shares of Pillar Naco (Australia) and renamed the company, Naco Caribbean Ltd.
Naco Caribbean Ltd. continues to manufacture Naco louvers and accessories under license and standards set by the holding company, Air Diffusion Limited in the United Kingdom.
