Community and School Projects

We have adopted two inner city schools;

The Iris Gelley Basic School

The Central Branch School

At the Iris Gelley Basic School we have introduced "eco-sanity" clubs whereby we are attempting to educate the future adults of Jamaica concerning the need to care for our environment.

By the general maintenance of both schools, providing green areas, and making the children’s school environment more comfortable we are hopping that our care will show eventually in their own home environments that these young minds will be pro-environment upon maturity.

We have also undertaken to sponsor the habitat of the South American Tapir at

The Hope Zoo.
The South American Tapir (Tapirus terreistris)
Is a strange primitive creative.
Its snout and upper lip are lengthened into a
short flexible trunk that is used to draw twigs
and branches into the mouth. It is a stockily built animal with short legs and a plump, thick-skinned body with short coarse hair. Its tail is a mere few inches long, the eyes small and the ears of medium length that extend up from the side of the head.

On the 26th o f June, GDSS took its environment concern to the city limits and cleaned up the east-end of the cause way bridge. It was a formidable task but the need was there and we rose to the occasion. The support that we received both in time and by donations aided tremendously in the success of our venture. As a result of the impact of this activity we have decided to become an active participant in the efforts to save our harbour and our beaches. The date of our next beach clean up is Sunday, March 28th, 1999. The place will be announced at a later date. Come and join us in giving back to Jamaica. Become more environmentally aware the "eco-sanity way."
